Demand Response Provider set to boost Capacity Market share

Britain’s largest demand response provider looks set to increase and extend its position within the Capacity Market (CM) after successfully pre-qualifying all of its submitted capacity.

Flexitricity, which last year became the first company of its kind to secure obligations for the first CM delivery year, confirmed today that it has successfully pre-qualified all of its submitted capacity for the next CM delivery year and for the first Transitional Arrangement (TA) period covering winter 2016/17.

This result secures Flexitricity’s ability to offer unrivalled access to these new markets and to deliver secure revenue to their growing Energy Partner portfolio. The CM and TA obligations will complement the company’s full range of balancing and peak management services and underline Flexitricity’s position as market leader.

Flexitricity’s Chief Executive Officer, Ron Ramage, said the company’s success within this pre-qualification process was another great example of Flexitricity’s market knowledge and attention to detail. He noted that the business had invested a significant amount of management time and effort to ensure that they were best placed to deliver more value to their current and future Energy Partners.

He said: “Increasing our capacity in the latest pre-qualification stages is a clear indication that demand response is now recognised as a valid, reliable and trusted source of power”.

Mr Ramage added: “By using existing generation assets and flexible load we can bring a reliable source of power to the market without building new generators or relying on expensive, inefficient sources of power”.

“So while we are delivering more flexibility to the Grid, we are doing so without undue impact on the environment – something that in itself is a key concern when considering how to meet the UK’s energy needs.”

Flexitricity’s pre-qualified capacity for the CM and TA auctions exceeds a combined 330MW’s. The company is currently allocating this capacity to current and future Energy Partners on a first come, first served basis.
