Our Story - Flexitricity pioneered the demand side response industry in Great Britain. Over the last 18 years we’ve grown from a start-up founded in a spare room to a thriving business leading the energy revolution.

Flexitricity is here to generate revenue for our customers. But we’ve always had a mission beyond that—to help reduce emissions, secure energy supplies and help all consumers across Britain to save money.

2022
- Andy Lowe is appointed CEO of Flexitricity
- Flexitricity continues to grow rapidly and establishes a number of exciting battery optimisation partnerships
2020
- Another Flexitricity first and an important milestone for the GB energy market—Flexitricity completed the first ever Balancing Mechanism transaction as a Virtual Lead Party through the Balancing Mechanism Wider Access route to market by dispatching two batteries owned by Philip Dennis Foodservice.
- Flexitricity partnered with Gresham House to optimise revenue for their 50MW Thurcroft battery storage site—thought to be the biggest in Europe (as of May 2020).
2019
- Flexitricity dispatches an EV charge point for the first time.
- Simon Heyes joins as CEO.
- Flexitricity builds a utility scale battery storage portfolio.
- Flexitricity is included in the first wave of accredited flexibility providers to join the Flex Assure scheme.
2018
- Flexitricity celebrates its 10th anniversary and over £20 million in savings and revenue to UK businesses.
- 10,000th DSR call.
- Flexitricity becomes an energy supplier.
- Flexitricity makes history by trading the first behind-the-meter asset in the Balancing Mechanism.
2016

Flexitricity launches the first system in the GB market to monetise excess wind power (Footroom / Demand Turn-up).
2014
- Flexitricity is the first aggregator to gain a Capacity Market contract.
- Flexitricity is acquired by the Alpiq Group.
2012

First Frequency Control by Demand Management (FCDM) call.
2008
- First STOR call—Flexitricity starts live operations and makes history by becoming the first demand side response aggregator in Great Britain.
- Flexitricity starts offering a triad management services and goes on to retain a 100% record.
2004

Flexitricity is founded by Dr Alastair Martin.
