The role primarily involves the building and testing of Flexitricity hardware, supporting customers with installation and taking the lead in commissioning new assets, including grid scale batteries, gas and CHP engines, and industrial load.

Flexitricity is Britain’s leading demand response business, providing short-notice response and reserve energy which is cheaper and greener than conventional power stations. Flexitricity plays a key role in the renewable revolution and in the electrification of heat and transport.
Flexitricity pioneered aggregated demand-side response services (DSR) for electricity system balancing, and continues to lead this sector in volume, technical capability and innovation. Flexitricity aggregates small generators, energy storage sites and flexible commercial and industrial energy users, making their capacity available to utilities for periods of stress in electricity systems. Participating generators, batteries and loads are owned by third-party industrial and commercial energy users who partner with Flexitricity to profit from their flexibility.
To complement the core DSR offer, in October 2018 Flexitricity launched a unique energy supply offering, Flexitricity+. Flexitricity+ provides transparent market access for combined heat and power operators, battery developers, merchant generators and energy-intensive industrial sites. Using our 24-hour control room and live smart grid platform, we monetise the flexibility of our customers in on-the-day markets such as the Balancing Mechanism.
About the role
Flexitricity operates in real-time energy markets, delivering flexible electricity capacity at optimised prices to National Grid, distribution networks and other market participants. Our job is to earn the best return for our customers using the flexible capacity they have available at the time.
The role primarily involves the building and testing of Flexitricity hardware, supporting customers with installation and taking the lead in commissioning new assets, including grid scale batteries, gas and CHP engines, and industrial load. The role will also play a key part in the further modification and development of our PLC control system to continue to meet the requirements of our current and future services.
The role will contribute as part of an engineering team, supporting diverse areas of the business ranging from Sales to Operations. The team provides technical support to new and existing customer sites, ensures our hardware remains operational and assets connected to our Virtual Power Plant (VPP).

- At least 3 years' experience in Controls Engineering / PLC / SCADA engineering
- Electrical design capability for Industrial Control Panels
- Ability to quickly understand complex issues and originate creative solutions
- Highly computer literate
- HND/HNC electrical or similar qualification
- Understanding of Energy system Design principles
- 17th/18th Edition (BS 7671)
- Writing software e.g. Python
- Proactive and highly reliable
- A team player, willing to get involved in tasks across the business
- Balances attention to detail with commercial focus
