The marketing efforts to date have resulted in the Flexitricity brand enjoying a dominant position in the market. To continue to support this, we have a requirement for a Marketing Manager to join us on a fixed-term basis, whilst our current Marketing Manager is on maternity leave.

Flexitricity connects flexible electricity customers to money.

Flexitricity is Britain’s leading demand response business, providing short-notice response and reserve energy which is cheaper and greener than conventional power stations.  Flexitricity plays a key role in the renewable revolution and in the electrification of heat and transport.

Flexitricity pioneered aggregated demand-side response services (DSR) for electricity system balancing, and continues to lead this sector in volume, technical capability and innovation. Flexitricity aggregates small generators, energy storage sites and flexible commercial and industrial energy users, making their capacity available to utilities for periods of stress in electricity systems. Participating generators, batteries and loads are owned by third-party industrial and commercial energy users who partner with Flexitricity to profit from their flexibility.

To complement the core DSR offer, in October 2018 Flexitricity launched a unique energy supply offering, Flexitricity+.  Flexitricity+ provides transparent market access for combined heat and power operators, battery developers, merchant generators and energy-intensive industrial sites.  Using our 24-hour control room and live smart grid platform, we monetise the flexibility of our customers in on-the-day markets such as the Balancing Mechanism. In 2020, this market access widened as we took flexibility into the Balancing Mechanism as a Virtual Lead Party for the first time.

About the role

Flexitricity operates in real-time energy markets, delivering flexible electricity capacity at optimised prices to National Grid, DNOs and other market participants. Our job is to earn the best return for our customers using the flexible capacity they have available at the time.

The marketing efforts to date have resulted in the Flexitricity brand enjoying a dominant position in the market. To continue to support this, we have a requirement for a Marketing Manager to join us on a fixed-term basis, whilst our current Marketing Manager is on maternity leave.

Working within our Sales, Account Management and Marketing Team and reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, you will be responsible for managing and promoting Flexitricity in the market, to drive positive brand recognition and ultimately to generate leads for the company.

Full training will be provided, but an understanding of Flexitricity’s sector and the factors influencing its development will be required.

Core duties will include:

  • Management and promotion of Flexitricity’s brand to promote business and drive lead generation;
  • Management of brand guidelines, ensuring consistency across all online and offline communication channels;
  • Reviewing and improving Flexitricity’s presence and position within the public domain;
  • Website optimisation, management of social media platforms (including occasional PPC campaigns), and SEO;
  • PR Management, including media relations and editing press releases, seeking opportunities and liaison with a contracted third-party PR company;
  • Managing Flexitricity’s attendance at industry events; and
  • Content creation, including brochures, videos and webinars (in-house and in collaboration with external agencies).

About you

Essential requirements:

This role requires an enthusiastic, organised, proactive and driven Marketing Manager with the following:

  • At least two years’ marketing experience within the energy sector;
  • The ability to manage a marketing strategy that aligns with and drives business objectives;
  • Desire to learn and the ability to present complex topics to a wide range of audiences in an engaging manner;
  • Proven marketing experience including PR engagement, SEO, website optimisation and social media platform management;
  • A ‘hands on’ attitude and a willingness to work autonomously to drive every aspect of the marketing process;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Experience with and the ability to utilise Adobe Creative Suite;
  • Competent IT capabilities, including Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Outlook;
  • Ability to work directly with business development and sales to generate appropriate leads; and
  • Ability to generate high quality, innovative ideas and to deliver.


    • Experience managing sponsorship opportunities and trade show attendance;
    • Experience working with external agencies in an efficient manner and generating creative briefs;
    • Project management skills; and
    •  Experience with video creation and photography and / or working with external production teams.

      You will be based within Flexitricity’s office in Edinburgh. Very occasional travel to trade shows/events might be required. Note that all Flexitricity employees are working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic and we support flexible working.
